Welcome to Chipmunk Rescue @ Squirrel Support and Hogarth's Wildlife!

Hello and Welcome to our Chipmunk/ Squirrel Rescue website!  The place to be if you have an unwanted chipmunk in need of a new home. With twenty years experience, we are dedicated to the rescue, care and rehoming of ill-treated, unwanted and sick Chipmunks around the UK; and help advice for sick, injured, orphaned and abandoned Wild Chipmunks throughout America, Canada, Siberia and Asia. Chipmunks are small, striped burrowing ground-squirrels, in the genera Tamias and the squirrel family - Sciuridae. We can also help and advise on tree squirrels.

Please help us by supporting our work - because they need us as much as we need them!

What is Chipmunk Rescue?
'Chipmunk Rescue' is partly a subdivision of the national non-profit concern, Squirrel Support (National Squirrel Rescue) and the charity Hogarth's Wildlife Rescue - that was originally founded back in 1993.  Squirrel Support itself began in 1995 and it was from here where the Chipmunk Rescue & Rehoming scheme came about. The author of this site has 21 years experience with both wild tree squirrels and chipmunks, and when considering family and friends/ volunteers who all help out, this amounts to many more years!

We have a Chipmunk "reserve" which has existed since the early-1990's that is today a shared partnership (overlapping) between Squirrel Support and Hogarth's Wildlife.  Some of the chipmunks are kept (fostered) permanently (some can never be rehomed), while others are found suitable new homes.

By "suitable" we mean:  With the correct amount of space needed, enough space per chipmunk to prevent squabbling, suitable inner-housing with frost proof nest-boxes, a solid floor with a good amount of substrate for them to dig and bury their food, proper high-quality galvanised wire weldmesh, safe branches and logs, and the correct balance of food - including nuts, seed, protein, fruit and vegetables.
